Milan Bergamo Airport Leads the Discussion on Development, Innovation, and Sustainability at Airport Day

On February 5, SACBO celebrated Airport Day, the national event promoted by Assaeroporti to underscore the pivotal role of the airport system in driving economic development, fostering innovation, and promoting sustainability across the country. On this occasion, SACBO organized the conference “Bergamo and Its Airport: Projects for the Future of Air Travel”, providing a platform for discussion on the current status and future growth prospects of Milan Bergamo Airport.

In his opening address, SACBO President Giovanni Sanga emphasized the airport’s significance beyond its function as a transportation hub, highlighting its role as a catalyst for regional development, economic opportunities, and community well-being. The event also served as an opportunity to present key infrastructure projects designed to enhance accessibility and services, reinforcing the airport’s strategic importance.

Among the most significant initiatives is the expansion of the departures area, scheduled for completion in 2025 in anticipation of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. Additionally, progress continues on the construction of the new railway connection, which will seamlessly integrate the airport into the public transport network, further improving connectivity and accessibility.

Milan Bergamo Airport also reaffirmed its status as Europe’s first officially recognized bike-friendly airport, demonstrating its commitment to promoting sustainable mobility and fostering a greener, more environmentally conscious approach to transportation. Furthermore, SACBO introduced its latest projects in digitalization and artificial intelligence, aimed at optimizing operational efficiency and enhancing the passenger experience through technological innovation.

The Airport Day proceedings concluded with a live broadcast linking Bergamo and Rome, during which SACBO President Giovanni Sanga and Bergamo Mayor Elena Carnevali participated in the national event. The event culminated with an address by the Minister of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, further emphasizing the strategic role of Italy’s airport network in the nation’s economic and infrastructural development.
