Protecting the well-being of the community; noise mitigation works.

Of the thorniest and most sensitive topics for an airport operator, noise pollution is something that we have always kept in mind.

Ensuring the well-being and peace of mind of our community is one of our main goals, which is why over the years we have promoted the implementation of noise mitigation measures for public and private buildings potentially subject to significant levels of noise pollution.

We have been able to intervene on more than 500 buildings, including schools and homes, since 2009.

The work took place via three major calls for tender in 2009, 2015 and 2017.

With the 2009 tender, promoted in collaboration with the Lombardy Region and the Province of Bergamo and financed entirely by SACBO, 124 homes benefited from the works.

The next tender (2015), also unilaterally promoted by SACBO, allowed for works on around 160 homes.

The most recent tender, which was published in August 2017, for the assessment, design and realisation of improvements concerning the soundproofing of homes in the municipalities of Orio al Serio, Seriate, Grassobbio, Bagnatica and Brusaporto, led to the carrying out of works on a total of 232 homes over the successive years.

The works, mainly of a structural nature, included the replacement of windows and doors, as well as interventions to optimise acoustic comfort and the subsequent installation of air conditioning systems.

Lastly, again with regards to interventions in recent years, we also completed soundproofing and acoustic climate improvement works in 10 school buildings in the municipalities of Bergamo, Orio al Serio and Grassobbio.

It should be noted that this project has suffered an abrupt halt over the last two years, due to the health emergency and the related crisis in the sector; in fact, no noise mitigation measures were carried out in either 2020 or 2021.

However, the issue was addressed in amendments filed in early February 2020, during the definition of the 2030 Airport Development Plan, foreseeing the implementation of acoustic mitigation measures at homes closer to the airport and subject to high levels of noise pollution in the coming years, in correlation with the development of the airport infrastructure.
