BGY at the Festival of Biodiversity

On Friday, June 6, SACBO took part in the 19th edition of the Festival of Biodiversity, an event promoted by Parco Nord Milano and dedicated to safeguarding ecosystems and highlighting the active role of businesses in protecting the environment.

During the meeting “The role of businesses in protecting and enhancing biodiversity”, held at the Oxy.gen space in Bresso (MI), Elena Massoletti, representing the Sustainable Development | Environment Unit of SACBO, outlined the actions Milan Bergamo Airport is undertaking to protect biodiversity.

Among the initiatives presented was the European project LIFE IP Gestire 2020, promoted by Regione Lombardia, the Carabinieri Forestali, and ERSAF, in which Milan Bergamo Airport participated as a pilot site to combat the introduction of invasive alien species through training activities and the creation of an integrated prevention and control system.

SACBO also presented its contribution to the development of an experimental feeding station for necrophagous birds of prey in the Lombard Prealps—an intervention aimed at supporting the survival of threatened species such as the Griffon Vulture, the Red Kite, and the Egyptian Vulture, in partnership with FLA, WWF, and the Valpredina-Misma Nature Reserve.

The airport operator’s commitment also extends to rewilding the northern area of the airport grounds and collaborating with a beekeeper to monitor environmental quality through 40 beehives installed near the terminal.

Participation in the Festival of Biodiversity was an important opportunity to share these experiences and strengthen dialogue with other companies engaged in environmental sustainability, including SEA, FNM, Società Acqua & Sole, and Milano Serravalle.

SACBO thus continues its journey toward an airport model increasingly attentive to natural balance, aware that protecting biodiversity is a shared responsibility and a key driver for the future of the region.
