SACBO, in its role to manage and operate Milan Bergamo Airport, has for a number of years been carrying out activities to protect the flora and fauna in the area surrounding the terminal.
To this end, on the morning of 22 January, a hare capture and release exercise took place in the grasslands in the airport area. The initiative, carried out with the support of personnel from the Local Territorial Hunting association (ATC – Ambito Territoriale Caccia) for the Bergamo Plain, was aimed at moving wild animals away from the areas of aircraft movement in order to prevent collisions.
The event took place three years after the previous session, and the operation began at 7.30 a.m., ending at around 11 a.m., with 23 animals captured in total.
The capture session was followed by the adoption of all necessary precautions for protecting and saving the animals, which were marked by a veterinarian and then later released into the repopulation area of the Bergamo Plains.
