Over recent years, Milan Bergamo Airport has independently committed to support projects of a social nature, with the aim of eliminating stereotypes, harmful behaviour, and any form of discrimination. In particular, BGY has focused attention on combating male violence against women.
One of the most significant actions is represented by support for the “NON SEI SOLA” project, an initiative of great importance in the area in the fight to combat violence against women. Promoted by the Lombardy Region since 2013, the project has seen the creation of the interinstitutional anti-violence network for the Treviglio area, which was later extended to the Romano di Lombardia area in 2014.
“NON SEI SOLA” is a point of reference for women who suffer situations of violence. The project promoted collaboration between public and private institutions, and professional figures from a number of disciplines and roles, to efficiently contrast the phenomenon.Through training, education and awareness-raising initiatives in schools, as well as awareness-raising actions aimed at the general population, NON SEI SOLA aims to eliminate misogyny.
Milan Bergamo Airport has provided substantial support for this initiative through a range of actions. Of these, particular attention is due to participation in the preparation of a manual developed thanks to the experience of a number of sector operators, which provides a detailed explanation of the “RED CODE”. This emergency procedure, which was introduced by law no. 69 in 2019, aims to protect the victims of domestic violence and violence against women, providing recommendations and practical actions to be taken to prevent dangerous situations, as well as information on useful contacts for asking for help and immediate refuge. The manual has been translated into a range of foreign languages, in order to reach out to all women without exclusion.
The promotion of a culture of anti-violence by Bergamo Airport has also taken the form of a significant advertising campaign in the most influential media publications, further underscoring its commitment.
Milan Bergamo Airport has thus emerged not only as a point of reference for travellers, but also an active social and responsible player capable of using its influence and resources to make a difference. Its contribution to combating violence against women is just one action in contributing to social well-being and gender equality.
