A clear example is the Avio project (Airport Virtual Infrastructure Operation), an advanced <strong>Digital Twin<\/strong> platform that integrates data from sensors, cameras, and operational systems to improve apron efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As explained by Davide Gabrielli of the Operational Innovation Unit at <strong>SACBO<\/strong> in a dedicated interview with <strong>eco.bergamo<\/strong>, the system creates a coherent 3D replica of the airside environment, continuously updated with turnaround activities, significantly enhancing the management of the airport area where aircraft movements take place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Developed in collaboration with partners such as <strong>Hewlett Packard Enterprise<\/strong>, <strong>TXT e-tech<\/strong>, <strong>Sorint.tek<\/strong>, and the <strong>Universit\u00e0 di Pavia<\/strong>, Avio is a unique project in Italy. The system is based on a high-performance computing (HPC) platform that processes data locally, ensuring both security and continuity of service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sustainability impact is one of the project\u2019s core elements. In the same article, Ettore Pizzaballa\u2014Head of Information Systems at SACBO\u2014highlights how the use of a single, integrated platform allows processes from different stakeholders to converge, reducing complexity as well as overall energy demand. From an operational standpoint, optimized apron flows minimize potential errors and control times, leading to lower consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, the Avio project is also used for training through digital simulators for airside driving and de-icing procedures. These tools allow a combination of hands-on practice and virtual simulations, significantly reducing the use of fuel, water, and electricity.
